Situated just few kilometers east of Heraklion Crete the municipality of Gouves is a well-developed tourist resort with long sandy beaches, traditional villages and interesting archeological sites. West of Gouves you will find the tourist resorts of Kokkini Hani and Amnisos with sandy beaches and remarkable archeological sites and to the east you can visit Crete’s biggest resort Hersonisos. The village of Gouves lies about 20 km east of Heraklion. Kato Gouves with its long sandy beach is the summer resort just outside the village. Gouves village (Kato Gouves) enjoys the facilities of a fairly large developing seaside tourist resort with excellent beaches while being close to quiet traditional villages inland. Gouves is on the north coast of Crete, 12 miles east of the capital Heraklion and the airport. Couples and families will have plenty of tavernas, shops, bars and clubs, but without the really lively nightlife of neighbours like Hersonissos. In Gouves everyone can easily find tranquillity by exploring the fertile fields and rolling hills inland, with pretty traditional villages, ancient monuments and two charming monasteries. Two miles inland the original village of Gouves sits on the hillside of Mount Ederi and overlooks the resort which is officially known as Kato Gouves (Lower Gouves). Gouves beach
The beach of Gouves is the sandy beach in front of the village Kato Gouves, a popular and well developed tourist resort, some 18 kilometres far from Heraklion at the East. Open to the Cretan Sea, the beach is affected by the northern winds. Fully organised and very close to Heraklion, the beach offers full accommodation facilities in many hotels of any kind and category, food and drink in several fish taverns, restaurants, beach bars and cafes. Facilities for swimming and sunbathing (sunbeds, umbrellas ) and sea sports are also available on the beach. The short distance (approximately 2 kilometer) from the beaches of Gournes and Chani Kokkini at the West and Analipsi at the East provide good alterntives for swimming.
