About Loutro - Crete
The seaside of village is located at a distance of about 74 km. south of Chania, at the end of Cape Mouri. It is believed that this was the site of the ancient city of Finikas, and was the port of ancient Anopolis. Later, it became the winter time port of the town of Sfakia, due to the fact that the enclosed bay and the small island in its entrance create a natural harbor where ships can be safe even at very bad weather conditions. The only access is by boat or as you wish, by foot! Loutro is a place for those people who want something different.
For example there are no big hotels with swimming pools. There are no overcrowded streets, restaurants and beaches, there are no cars!!. A small picturesque fishing village in south west Crete, not yet spoilt by mass tourism. Discover the beautiful beaches like Glyka Nera ( sweet water ), Timios Stavros, Pervolaki, Marmara, (most are naturist beach) and enjoy the sun, sea and peaceful tranquility. Here you will find the rest and peace you are looking for and if you want there are lots of things to do! Enjoy walking in the scenic, unspoilt mountain countryside with its valleys and gorges, of course you never think about the weather forecast , the weather is almost always warm and sunny. The great high mountains on the north side of the village give a big protection during the seasons. The people are friendly and hospitable and will always be there for you

Holidays in Loutro - Crete
Holidays in Loutro are very special because this remarkable village resort can only be reached by boat or on foot! Loutro is not disturbed by traffic or by overexcited nightlife! Loutro is scenically placed on a bay in the region of Sfakia in the south of Crete. Loutro is west of Chora Sfakion which is the main ferry departure point to reach this charming and original resort. You will spend your Loutro holiday in a small village of whitewashed houses grouped around a picturesque harbour in a pretty bay. Holidays in Loutro are memorable for the unique friendly atmosphere, its small feel, the magic of the bay, the extraordinary coastline and the rugged rocky mountainous interior. The Loutro area has remains from Venetian and Turkish occupiers and ancients.
With no cars or motorbikes Loutro obviously appeals to those looking for an escape from stress and noise. Yet despite its small relaxed atmosphere there is plenty to keep you occupied. Evenings can be spent with the cosmopolitan crowd that gather in the modest selection of bars, cafes and tavernas. Loutro has some good restaurants and a couple of shops for provisions… but no nightclubs. Walk a short distance to Loutro beaches which are to each side of the village. Two excellent beaches, Sweetwater and Marmaris near the Aradena gorge, are reached by boats provided by local fishermen, leaving Loutra in the mornings. Loutro is connected by all-important ferry with Chora Sfakion and Agia Roumeli and on to Paleochora. The coast ferry makes an inexpensive way of viewing this fine stretch of Crete coastline, with a stop in Chora Sfakion to soak up the atmosphere. Another Loutros holiday boat trip is to Gavdos island for dolphin spotting.
Loutro beach ...
At a distance of 80 kilometers far from Chania at the South, the beach in front of Loutro village is a pebbly beach very small but beautiful, with very clear and calm water. The rocky seabed makes it ideal for snorkelling. The beach is found within he homonymous small cove and it is rather protected from winds. Well organised, it offers accommodation facilities, food and drink and facilities for swimming and sunbathing (sun beds, umbrellas). It is too crowded in August. Swimmers should be cautious in August, since there are too many speedboats.
Getting to Loutro in Chania - Crete
The entrance to Crete is the two big airports, in Chania (Xania) and Heraklion (Iraklio), and four harbors Chania, Rethymno, Heraklio, Kissamos. Wherever you arrive finally, you have two ways to approach Loutro : bus or taxi. Taxi of course is easier. So in case you take the bus, if you come from Chania you must go to the bus station ( K.T.E.L. ) and take the but  to Chora Sfakion. This bus crosses the mountains and get you to that village Sfakia. There you ask where is the  depart  point for the boat to your destination, Loutro.   The trip takes only 15 minutes to get you in Loutro.  Now in case you arrive in Heraklion or Rethymno you  also go to the bus station and  take the bus to Chania witch stops to Vrisses (Brisses) village. There you wait for the bus to Sfakia village. The rest is like above.
