Map of Crete island (Creta) - Greece
According to ancient Greek mythology Zeus, father of the Olympian Gods, was born on Crete and raised in the island's caves. And, of course, you'll want to visit the Palace of Knossos, linked to the myth of Theseaus and the Minotaur, and the centre of rule for the s Minoan Civilization that ruled the Aegean thousands of years ago. Crete consists of four regions: Chania in the west, Rethymno, Iraklio in the center and also the capital of the island, and to the east the Lassithi Plateau. In general, the northern shores of Crete are developed for tourism, and some of them full-blown package tourism traps. If you are looking to discover the culture of Greece, some of these places aren't for you. But fear not, Greece is big and varied and there are many beautiful spots to discover.

Holidays in Crete GREECE
Land of Daidalos and Ikaros. Of Minoan vases and famous frescoes. Shining and starlit, with its black baggy breeches and fringed kerchiefs. Romantic Crete, with its sea, rocks and gleaming plateaus. Crete, land of full-bodied wine and pungent tsipouro. "Sleepless Crete, land of endless feasts under star-studded skies" , scented with wild fennel and fresh basil. Dizzying Crete, of the warlike dances. Crete island - the largest in Greece - separates the Aegean from the Libyan Sea, marks the boundary between Europe and Africa. Majestic mountains rise in its center - the White Mountains, Psiloritis, Dikti. Its plateaus are split by deep gorges and end up in fertile valleys.
The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, quite rainy winters. Is the mildest of Greece. There are significant differences to the weather condition between the coastal zone and the mountainous areas, as well as the west and the east part. The coastal zone characterized by dry summer and mild winter. The rainy season starts in late October and lasts till March or even April. Snowfalls are extremely rare in the coastal zone of Crete, especially so in the eastern part of the island. On the other hand, the winters in the mountains of Crete are quite harsh and it is always snowing during the period from January to the end of February. Also, the east part of Crete is drier and warmer than the west part.Because the island of Greece is very mountainous, the changes of weather can be sudden and the mountains, creating a weather-barrier are creating different weather conditions in northern and southern Crete, with the southern being drier and warmer.
