About Stalis - Crete
It's not that long since this was a tranquil little hamlet … But Stalis couldn't stay undiscovered. When your village is set by one of the best beaches on the island, just like Topsy, it grows and grows. So holidays in Stalis today can be pretty lively affairs. The gorgeous golden sands start here and stretch to Malia and beyond, so barefoot strolls could take you all the way to neon nights at your nearest neighbour. Backing the beach is an unbroken line of hotels, restaurants, bars and tavernas, and just behind these are … more hotels, restaurants, bars and tavernas – with a couple of discos added for good measure. Next stage back from the sea is the accommodation – from which you could choose to go simply stylish or cheerfully cheap. Holidays in Stalis include the charming Hotel Moonlight – gazing out to the bluest blue sea, and a whole host of self-catering apartments – sized for couples, families or friends. With so much on offer, it's a great candidate for late deals too, so you could pick up a real bargain on last minute holidays to Stalis. And here's another advantage to this friendly, laid back resort. It's only when you tear yourself away that you realise how well positioned Stalis holidays are. The local buses go east to Aghios Nikolaos and Elounda, and west to the water's edge eateries of Hersonissos and the bustling streets of Heraklion, Crete island's capital. A change of scene is effortless. And it's a fabulous place to come home to … |

Stalis Quick Info
Stalis is perfect for relaxed, lazy days on the beach with azure blue waters lapping against the beautiful stretch of golden sand dotted with sunbeds and umbrellas. There are plenty of watersports on offer and away from the beach you will find sights such as the Palace of King Minos at Knossos and Heraklion, with its impressive Venetian architecture and imposing castle. In the evening you can choose to wine and dine in the resort's wide selection of tavernas and restaurants, before heading to one of its handful of discos. Or for a wider choice of venues, check out Malia or Hersonnissos. There is a regular bus service to the nearby resorts.
Stalis has plenty of sandy beaches, separated by rocky outcrops, from which to enjoy the sun and enticing sea. Sun loungers and parasols are available to make your sunbathing as comfortable as possible. This resort is well supplied with tavernas and bars, serving anything from fries to fresh fish and feta salads. One of the most delicious local specialities is 'souvlaki' - tender cuts of pork marinated in garlic, lemon, olive oil and oregano, then skewered and grilled. Many of the hotels have more expansive restaurants to cater for those looking for more sophisticated international cuisine. There are a wide selection of bars to start your evening in. After a couple of glasses of chilled Greek wine, either continue to a local taverna for a delicious meal or dance til dawn in one of the discos. The nights are so long here, that if you've got the energy, it's more than possible to do both.
Stalis has several minimarkets proffering everyday essentials and beach goods so don't worry if you've forgotten your swimming costume or suntan lotion. Souvenirs are everywhere and you're sure to find the perfect gift for the loved ones you've left at home. Off the beaten track you can find a more diverse range of shops selling locally made crafts, jewellery and clothes. For an even more varied shopping experience you could try heading to Hersonissos or Heraklion. Stalis is well situated for accessing the surrounding countryside - take a relaxing stroll amidst fruit orchards and olive groves, accompanied only by the sound of tiny birds chirruping to one another. The nearby island of Santorini, sculpted through a history of volcanic violence, is well worth a visit. Its stunning coast is decorated with dazzling white buildings and blue-domed churches, while in the centre you'll discover a submerged crater.

Stalis holiday reviews:
Highly recommended - Ephrain Willis. Date of travel: Jan 2006
Stalis is a great place for the family. We have spent two previous vacations here and will continue to return. The beaches are wonderful and there is plenty for the kids to keep them busy. The bars are decent(prices reasonable usually) and the people are very friendly. I could recommend it highly!
